Itching to crochet

I have been itching to make something for the last week. I go in the art room, shuffle through some supplies, fumble with materials and leave. What to make? I had a list of projects to do, I did them all, now what? While surfing other blogs I come upon granny squares more and more and would really love to have a large task at hand like an afghan. With crochet and knit projects I am more apt to get on the bus in the mornings to work. (It takes an hour to get to work on the bus). It is a nice way to start the morning and when I get going with a square there is no need for a pattern.

I made this baby blanket for dear friends over the summer. (We are babysitting her today). The block patterns are from 200 Crochet Blocks. It does take quite a bit of time to weave in ends, block, and piece the squares. I've been holding off buying any yarn or any supplies for that matter. My beginning crochet class starts on the 6th. Hopefully there will be enough students to get me a good hunk of store credit to use for yarn. I used Cascade 220. It is a strictly hand wash only blanket, it would wad into a nice hunk of felt if you tried to put it in the washer. Each time it is hand washed it gets softer and softer. Cascade has such a wide palette of colors, it is relatively inexpensive and it is not a yucky acrylic. Here is a close up of the flower square:
